SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Knight Ridder Inc., the second-largest newspaper publisher in the country, reported Friday that its first-quarter earnings rose 8 percent on solid advertising revenue.
Quarterly income was $60.5 million, or 79 cents a share, up from $55.9 million, or 70 cents a share, for the same period last year.
Revenue rose 1.7 percent to $724.7 million from $712.3 million. Total advertising revenue climbed 3.3 percent to $566.1 million.
