 LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - The Kentucky Derby field is quickly taking shape, and — surprise! — trainer Nick Zito won't have all the favorites.
Afleet Alex and Bandini made sure of that by rolling to victories in major prep races three weeks before the Derby.
Fully recovered from a lung infection, Afleet Alex cruised into top Derby contender territory with a record eight-length romp in Saturday's $1 million Arkansas Derby. Trainer Tim Ritchey says Afleet Alex is headed to Churchill Downs later in the week.
