NEW YORK (AP) - A tuneup event for the U.S. Open was canceled after organizers were unable to move it to a larger site.
The decision ends a 23-year run for the Long Island tennis tournament once known as the Hamlet Cup. The TD Waterhouse Cup had been scheduled for Aug. 20-28.
Lleyton Hewitt won last year's event in Commack. Negotiations to shift the event to East Meadow could not be concluded in time, according to a letter posted Wednesday on the tournament's Web site.
