VALHALLA, N.Y. (AP) - Three years after giving birth to conjoined twins, Arlene Aguirre beamed Thursday as her sons celebrated their birthday with Big Bird cake and Elmo balloons, eyeing each other and their preschool classmates from separate chairs.
She recalled the party a year ago, when Carl and Clarence still joined at the tops of their heads had to scoot along on their backs and had yet to see each other face-on.
"You remember how it was," said Aguirre, who brought the boys to New York from the Philippines in September 2003. "Now they're sitting in a chair like this. I'm happy, and I'm so proud of them."
