BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) - The European Union's trade chief announced Friday that he will ask for an investigation into Chinese textile imports, fearing measures are needed to protect Europe's domestic industry.
EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson was to ask the EU head office next week for a two-month probe that could lead to safeguards against Chinese textiles to shield Europe's embattled industry.
At the end of the investigation China could either voluntarily impose restrictive measures or a formal three-month consultation process could be started.
