SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Brett Tomko pitched effectively into the seventh inning and hit a two-run single to give the slumping San Francisco Giants a much-needed win, 6-2 over the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday.
The Giants had lost four of five games, scoring just 10 runs in that span, as they struggle early this season without injured slugger Barry Bonds. Tomko (1-3) had been particularly hurt by the lack of support, as the Giants scored just one run while he was in the game in his first three starts.
Yorvit Torrealba keyed the offense in a rare start, hitting a solo homer to score San Francisco's first run and adding an RBI double in a four-run fourth inning against Chris Capuano (0-2).
