Rasheed Wallace Changes Pistons and Image

Sunday, April 24, 2005 4:47:43 PM
By LARRY LAGE

Detroit Pistons forward Rasheed Wallace (36) makes a layup in front of Philadelphia 76ers center Samuel Dalembert of Haiti during the fourth quarter at the Palace in Auburn Hills, Mich., Saturday, April 23, 2005. After leading Detroit to the NBA title last year, Wallace got the Pistons off to a fast start in postseason by scoring 24 of his 29 points in the second half, helping the Pistons pull away from the 76ers 106-85 in the first game of the NBA playoffs. (AP Photo/Carlos Osorio)AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) - Rasheed Wallace is credited with turning the Detroit Pistons into champions. They have, in turn, helped him improve his image.

His teammates and coaches love him, like they always have. Fans adore him, like they have at times. Officials will chat with him, even those who wouldn't in the past, and reporters now get along with him.

Wallace's temper made him a notorious member of the Portland Trail Blazers — and the NBA — for seven-plus seasons before he was dealt last year to Atlanta and later Detroit.
