BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) - NATO allies agreed Wednesday to consider logistical help for the African Union's peacekeeping force in Sudan's troubled Darfur region.
NATO officials stressed the support would not involve deploying an alliance force in Sudan. However, NATO spokesman James Appathurai said it "would be the most significant focus by NATO on an African security problem."
The agreement followed a request from the African Union Commission's chairman Alpha Oumar Konare, Appathurai said.
