Five Die When Boat Sinks Off Somalia Coast

Friday, April 29, 2005 3:52:37 PM

WASHINGTON (AP) - Five people died and as many as 41 were unaccounted for in the sinking of a boat off the coast of Somalia on Friday, the U.S. Navy said. Eighty-nine were rescued after German and American patrol ships came upon the sinking boat.

The German frigate FGS Karlsruhe and the American patrol ship USS Firebolt, patrolling in the Gulf of Aden between Yemen and Somalia, first came upon the boat late in the afternoon. It was taking on water and did not respond to the German vessel's hails.
