PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Lleyton Hewitt is appealing a $48,000 fine for withdrawing from last month's Nasdaq-100 Open, saying he should be excused because of a foot injury.
ATP chief executive "Mark Miles is reviewing the case, and a decision should be made shortly," ATP spokesman Greg Sharko said Saturday.
Citing a toe injury, the 2001 U.S. Open and 2002 Wimbledon champion pulled out of the event in Key Biscayne, Fla., on March 21, two days before play began.
