HUNTINGDON VALLEY, Pa. (AP) - Two women using a crosswalk at a suburban Philadelphia train station were killed Sunday when they walked in front of an oncoming express train traveling at 70 mph, officials said.
Mary Stevens, 78, and Helen Stewart, 76, apparently did not realize the train was not stopping at the station, authorities said. People on the platform shouted warnings as they entered the crosswalk leading from the parking lot to the train platform.
Based on tickets found in their belongings, police believe they were going into Philadelphia for an afternoon show, said Lt. Steven Beck of the Lower Moreland Police Department.
