KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) - Nepal's king has taken a step toward easing international pressure by lifting a three-month-old state of emergency, but the turmoil at home shows no signs of abating.
Communist rebels appear to be escalating attacks. And the king's political opponents say they are mulling how to turn up the heat.
On Monday, the government freed the last two top political leaders detained when King Gyanendra grabbed power in February, but authorities extended the detention of 175 lower-level politicians and activists without giving a reason.
