WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) - New Zealand's government Tuesday ordered an overhaul of the way it processes visa applications after admitting that two former officials from Saddam Hussein's Iraqi regime entered the country and that one had applied for residency.
"We will act to defend our borders" against immigration cheats, Prime Minister Helen Clark said after an unnamed former Iraqi diplomat and his wife were ordered to leave the country.
In a separate case, Immigration Minister Paul Swain ordered that the entry visas granted to a second Iraqi man and his wife also be revoked, and the couple ordered to leave.
