SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - An Australian inmate who testified on behalf of a student beautician facing drug-smuggling charges and a possible death penalty on Indonesia's Bali island has been stabbed in jail, his ex-wife said Friday.
The prisoner, John Ford, had been taken under guard to Bali in March to provide key evidence for Schapelle Corby's defense, which claims she was the unwitting victim of an Australian gang that used her luggage to transport marijuana on a domestic flight but failed to remove it before she flew on to Indonesia.
Ford testified he overheard two other inmates laughing about how a crime boss' shipment of marijuana had disappeared between the eastern Australia city of Brisbane and Sydney last year.
