 FROSINONE, Italy (AP) - Luca Mazzanti won the fourth stage of the Giro d'Italia on Wednesday after overall leader and Olympic champion Paolo Bettini was penalized for an irregular sprint.
Australia's Baden Cooke fell while battling with Bettini on the final straightaway. The race jury reviewed television tapes and decided to penalize Bettini, moving him from first to fourth in the stage results.
Although he lost a 20-second bonus for winning, Bettini still retained the pink jersey of overall leader, 13 seconds ahead of Italian countryman Danilo Di Luca.
