LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) - Bo Helander has resigned as secretary general of the International Equestrian Federation, nine months after three scandals hit the sport at the Athens Olympics.
The Swede, who resigned Tuesday and will leave Aug. 31, became secretary general of the FEI in 1995.
"Dr. Helander made his decision to open the way for the important changes that will occur in the near future with the implementation of the new structure of the FEI," the federation said in a statement Wednesday.
