BOSTON (AP) - One of two errors originally charged to Red Sox first baseman Kevin Millar in a game against the Oakland Athletics has been changed by the official scorer to a fielder's choice.
With the score tied 1-1 in the seventh inning Tuesday night, Millar threw the ball home to try to get the go-ahead run instead of stepping on first for a force out. The throw wasn't in time to keep Bobby Kielty from scoring, and Millar was charged with his fourth error of the season.
Boston manager Terry Francona politely questioned the call in a meeting with reporters before Wednesday's game. But official scorer Charlie Scoggins of The Sun of Lowell already had changed his mind.
