Tenn. Lawmaker Fined for Misuse of Funds

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A state senator was fined $10,000 Wednesday for spending $15,000 in campaign money on his daughter's wedding.

Sen. John Ford, a Memphis Democrat, said he thought the expenditure was legal because many of the guests at the 2003 reception lived in his district.

The state Registry of Election Finance ruled 4-3 it was a fraudulent use of campaign funds, and imposed the maximum penalty.
