KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) - Strong wind was pounding the snowy slopes of Mount Everest, forcing dozens of mountaineers to delay their attempt to scale the world's highest peak, mountaineering officials said Thursday.
"Reports from our official on the mountain say climbers are planning push to the summit only around May 18-20," said Rajendra Pandey, an official at the Mountaineering Department in Katmandu.
Weather forecasts in Nepal predicted blizzard-like conditions on higher parts of the mountain, making it impossible for climbers to reach higher elevations.
