NEW DELHI (AP) - Firecrackers illegally stored in a home exploded early Monday in southern India, killing eight people, a news report said.
Another 10 people were seriously injured in the blast in Hassan, a town 120 miles west of Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka state, Press Trust of India news agency said.
Southern India has a large number of factories making firecrackers, which are in great demand during religious festivals and weddings across India. They are also exported to Singapore, Malaysia, Bangladesh and several other Asian countries.
