(AP Photo/Will Powers)PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix Suns president Bryan Colangelo was honored as the NBA's executive of the year by The Sporting News on Tuesday after emerging from his father's shadow to engineer the third-biggest turnaround in league history.

It was the first time a father and son have won the award. Suns chairman and former owner Jerry Colangelo was a four-time winner

"Each time he was given more responsibility, he accepted it with open arms and showed he could handle anything thrown his way," the elder Colangelo said at a news conference where the award was presented. "On a personal note, I'm very proud of what he's accomplished — the fact that his peers in the league think so highly of him, and that he's being recognized for the job he's done."
