SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Ricky Carmichael won the AMA Motocross season opener Sunday, taking the top spot at the Hangtown National for the fourth time.
Carmichael, a five-time 250cc champion, won both motos on a Makita Suzuki RM-Z450. Australia's Chad Reed was second, and France's David Vuillemin third, both on Yamahas.
James Stewart, who moved up from 125cc to the 250cc class was expected to challenge Carmichael, but he crashed twice in the first moto and pulled out of the second because he felt lightheaded.
