SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Giants ace Jason Schmidt was activated from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday in time to start the opener of a three-game series that night against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
San Francisco optioned right-hander Jeremy Accardo to Triple-A Fresno to free up a roster spot for Schmidt, sidelined since May 10 with a right shoulder strain.
The 32-year-old Schmidt, an NL All-Star the past two years and an 18-game winner last season, is 2-1 with a 4.71 ERA in seven starts this year and hasn't won since April 10 against Colorado — a span of five starts.
