PARIS (AP) - Marat Safin must think he's cursed at the French Open. Last year it was blisters on both hands. On Thursday, tendinitis in his left knee prompted him to call a trainer twice in the first set before he limped and hobbled past Czech qualifier Lukas Dlouhy 6-7 (6), 6-3, 7-5, 6-1.
"My knee bothers me more and more," Safin said. "It really hurts, especially when I serve. I cannot put the weight on one leg, the left one."
The pain hit him particularly hard at 5-5 in the opening set. The tall Russian, seeded third, jumped for a routine smash he could easily have converted standing.
