SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Giants general manager Brian Sabean blasted two news organizations on Friday for what he considers sensationalistic journalism, comparing their coverage of injured slugger Barry Bonds to the "National Enquirer."
Before San Francisco opened a three-game series against NL West rival San Diego, Sabean singled out ESPN and MLB.com for their coverage of Bonds, sidelined following three operations on his troublesome right knee.
"I think the absurdity is that all this attention is being paid to somebody who's not in uniform," Sabean said. "I understand why, but then because of that, everybody is in a position to react. I don't think it's fair that somebody is assigned here for the National Enquirer-type of opportunity. That's what it's been reduced to. We're all going to have to live with it, like it or not."
