BEIJING (AP) - Three days of flooding triggered by torrential rains killed 88 people in China's south and desert northwest and left 73 missing at the beginning of the country's summer flood season, the government said Saturday.
Most of the deaths were reported in the southern province of Hunan, where the government said mountain villages were washed away in flash floods. Flood deaths also were reported in Sichuan and Guizhou provinces and in the Muslim region of Xinjiang in the northwest.
The government said earlier that at least 47 people were killed in Hunan, 17 in Guizhou and four in Sichuan. No further details about new deaths were available Saturday.
