CHULA VISTA, Calif. (AP) - Nearly 10 months later, the U.S. national softball team is still in Olympic form. Cat Osterman struck out 10 and pitched a one-hitter to help the Americans beat rival Australia 9-0 on Sunday to win the gold medal at the International Sports Invitational. The game was called after six innings because of the mercy rule.
The victory capped an undefeated run of five straight games for Team USA, including three against Australia.
The United States beat Australia 5-1 to cap its unprecedented run through the Athens Games, when it won its third straight Olympic gold medal and outscored the opposition 51-1.
