RABAT, Morocco (AP) - At least 12 people six of them children drowned when a rubber dinghy carrying would-be immigrants to Europe capsized off Africa's northern coast, Moroccan officials said Monday.
The boat sank about 12 miles east of the Moroccan city of Tangiers late Sunday or early Monday, Interior Ministry officials said. The victims were from sub-Saharan Africa.
According to those rescued, about 90 people had jammed on board in hopes of crossing the Mediterranean and slipping into Spain illegally, the officials said.
