BLANTYRE, Malawi (AP) - A marauding animal killed at least nine people and wounded 11 in rural Malawi early Monday, police and hospital officials said.
Some victims in the central district of Dedza, about 43 miles south of the capital, Lilongwe, identified the animal as a hyena, while others thought it might be a lion, police spokesman Kelvin Maigwa said.
Armed officers were sent to the area with game rangers from the Department of Parks and Wildlife to kill the animal.
