FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) - The U.S. dollar hit a nine-and-a-half-month high against the euro on Wednesday amid a lingering malaise about Europe's economic and political future and improved economic figures in the United States.
The 12-nation euro bought as little as $1.2018 the lowest level since Aug. 30, when it bought $1.1987 though by late afternoon it had recovered to $1.2099, above the $1.2047 it bought in New York late Tuesday.
The British pound rose to $1.8151 from to $1.8075. The dollar was down slightly against the Japanese yen, at 109.29 yen from 109.32 yen.
