ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Hideo Nomo allowed two runs in seven innings for his 200th combined major league and Japanese victory, leading the Tampa Bay Devil Rays over the Milwaukee Brewers 5-3 on Wednesday night.
The win qualified Nomo (4-6) for the Meikyukai, one of two special honors for Japanese players. Membership is automatic after a player reaches 2,000 hits or 200 wins. He is the 16th pitcher and 45th member overall. The other top honor is the Japanese Hall of Fame, where members are elected.
Nomo gave up four hits and benefited from two batters lining into double plays. He struck out two and walked two in just his second win in his last 11 starts.
