PRETORIA, South Africa (AP) - South African prosecutors said Monday they will bring corruption charges against the country's ousted deputy president, who was implicated in a scandal involving his financial adviser.
Deputy President Jacob Zuma, who had been seen as President Thabo Mbeki's successor, was fired by the president last week after being implicated in a corruption scandal involving his financial adviser and friend, Schabir Shaik.
Makhosini Nkosi, a spokesman for the National Prosecuting Authority, told the South African Press Association that Zuma had been informed by prosecutors Monday that he would face criminal charges. Nkosi said Zuma, who maintains his innocence, would be told when and where to appear in court later this week.
