SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - Authorities raided several houses in southern Australia because the country's top spy agency suspected that Muslim extremists were plotting terror attacks on Sydney's Opera House and other landmarks, media reports said Thursday.
The government confirmed that police conducted raids Wednesday in the southern city of Melbourne, but the spy agency Australia Security Intelligence Organization, or ASIO declined to comment on the case.
Federal police chief Mick Keelty said suspects were questioned in Melbourne and Sydney as part of the operation, but nobody was charged with any offenses.
