FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) - Two Mexican players thrown off the team this week at the Confederations Cup were under investigation for the use of banned substances, Mexican soccer officials said Friday.
The defenders, Salvador Carmona and Aaron Galindo, were removed from the team Tuesday by coach Ricardo Lavolpe for what he called "disciplinary reasons."
In a statement Friday, FIFA said the Mexican federation had confirmed the positive tests. The tests took place before Mexico began playing in the tournament last week, FIFA said.
