CARSON, Calif. (AP) - Olympic champion Justin Gatlin was out, then back in the 100 meters in just over 1 1/2 hours Friday night after four false starts disrupted the preliminaries at the U.S. track and field championships.
Gatlin ran in the opening heat, where a false start was charged against the field. He was disqualified after a second false start, causing gasps from fans at Home Depot Center.
"It was like his whole world had crumbled down," said Renaldo Nehemiah, Gatlin's agent.
