WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) - Israel's apology for two of its citizens who illegally obtained New Zealand passports is proof the pair were secret agents, Prime Minister Helen Clark said Monday, a day after the two nations restored full diplomatic relations.
Ties between the countries plummeted last year after the incident, which led to the conviction and imprisonment of two men New Zealand alleges are Israeli agents.
Uriel Zoshe Kelman, 31, and Eli Cara, 50, were sentenced to six months in prison after pleading guilty to the passport charge, but they were released and deported after serving about two months.
