ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) - The Supreme Court ruled Friday the 2003 elections won by President Olusegun Obasanjo were fair, ending a challenge by Nigeria's main opposition leader.
The court unanimously rejected Muhammadu Buhari's allegations of widespread fraud in balloting that handed Obasanjo a second term and said the vote was "conducted substantially in accordance with the principles of the electoral act."
Obasanjo was first elected to power in 1999 polls organized by the military, which ended its 15-year grip on the country. The 2003 ballot was the first civilian-run vote since Nigeria gained independence from Britain in 1960.
