RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Independent Russ Potts voiced unequivocal support Thursday for allowing cohabiting same-sex couples to adopt children, a stance that sharply distinguishes him from his two party rivals in this year's governor's race.
In a wide-ranging 90-minute interview with Associated Press reporters, Potts said he saw no reason law-abiding gay couples who can provide good homes for children without parents should be barred from doing so.
"We're all God's children," Potts said. "... I don't think that they ought to be precluded from adopting a child."
