GERALD'S, Montserrat (AP) - The tiny British Caribbean territory of Montserrat inaugurated a new airport Monday, eight years after its old airport was destroyed in a volcanic eruption.
More than 1,000 cheering islanders about a quarter of Montserrat's population crowded Gerald's Airport as the first flights landed and took off from the new $18.5 million facility on the island's northern side.
"Montserrat is open for business. We are transforming adversities into opportunities," Montserrat's Chief Minister John Osborne said.
