LOS ANGELES (AP) - A former public relations executive pleaded guilty Monday to fraud charges for billing the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power tens of thousands of dollars for work that was never done.
Steven Sugerman is one of three former employees in the Los Angeles office of Fleishman-Hillard to face federal charges in the bogus-billing scheme. Last month Sugerman agreed to plead guilty to three counts of wire fraud for his part in a scam that prosecutors say cheated the DWP out of more than $300,000 over several years.
"Ultimately, the hours were increased on the worksheets on the billing records that were sent to the client," Sugerman, 41, told U.S. District Judge Gary Feess.
