PARIS (AP) - French engineering company Alstom SA said Tuesday its first-quarter revenue rose 8.8 percent, as buoyant sales of power-generating equipment offset a decline in shipbuilding.
Alstom, the maker of power turbines, ships, TGV trains and other rolling stock, said revenue was 3.56 billion euros ($4.27 billion) in April through June, up from the 3.27 billion euros it posted for the year-earlier period.
The company also said it took 3.98 billion euros ($4.78 billion) in orders, nearly unchanged from 3.94 billion euros ($4.73 billion) a year earlier. Like many French companies, Alstom publishes revenue and earnings separately.
