MIAMI (AP) - Samuel Caballeros scored with 10 minutes remaining in regulation to give Honduras a 1-0 victory over Panama in a CONCACAF Gold Cup first-round match Tuesday night.
The victory assures Honduras a first-place finish in Group A and a berth in Saturday's quarterfinals against Costa Rica. The Hondurans, who are eliminated from World Cup qualifying, finished 2-0-1 in the group with seven points.
Panama finished second and also advanced. Panama ended 1-1-1 with four points. Third-place Colombia, which defeated Trinidad and Tobago 2-0 in Tuesday's first game, earned a quarterfinal round berth, when Canada beat Cuba 2-1 in a late Group B game in Foxboro, Mass.
