DETROIT (AP) - Young or old, a lot of National League pitchers got whacked. John Smoltz gave up a homer to Miguel Tejada, Dontrelle Willis allowed Mark Teixeira's two-run home run and the American League went on win the All-Star game 7-5 Tuesday night.
"Any time you have All-Star versus All-Star, something's got to give," Teixeira said. "Luckily, we got out to a nice lead and scored just enough to win."
Taking his second career All-Star loss didn't seem to bother the 38-year-old Smoltz, who was raised in Michigan.
