NEW YORK (AP) - Three years after WorldCom collapsed in an epic accounting fraud, former CEO Bernard Ebbers convicted earlier this year of orchestrating the debacle is finally learning his fate.
Ebbers was due to face a federal judge in Manhattan on Wednesday and receive an almost certain prison term, with federal prosecutors suggesting he should be sent away for the rest of his life.
In papers filed last month, prosecutors asked U.S. District Judge Barbara Jones to follow a probation report that suggested Ebbers receive a life sentence after calculating his crimes under federal sentencing guidelines.
