LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Yum Brands Inc. on Wednesday posted 6 percent higher second-quarter profits, beating Wall Street expectations, on the strength of solid U.S. sales for its pizza, chicken and Mexican fast-food brands led by its resurgent KFC chain.
KFC had 8 percent growth in U.S. same-store sales for the quarter ended June 11, compared with a 5 percent decline in the year-ago period. Yum credited the sales surge to the popularity of the value "Snacker" sandwich and its variety chicken bucket.
Profit during the quarter rose to $187 million, or 62 cents per share, from $178 million, or 58 cents per share, last year. Revenue increased to $2.15 billion from $2.08 billion a year ago.
