BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) - Belgium-based brewer InBev SA reported a 5.4 percent growth in volume sales in the first half of this year, fueled by big increases in beer consumption in Latin America, Russia and Ukraine.
The world's biggest brewer by volume said it sold 104.2 million hectoliters of beer and soft drinks in the first six months of 2005. In the same period last year, before the merger of Interbrew and AmBev that created the company, Interbrew sold 54.7 million hectoliters. The company did not give combined figures.
Beer volume rose 12.9 percent in South and Central America, 14 percent in Russia and Ukraine, and 5 percent in China. However there was a decline of 4.6 percent in Western Europe and 2.2 percent in North America.
