Thursday, July 14, 2005 12:17:03 PM
By ALEXANDRA ZAVIS

Former South African President Nelson Mandela, studies a program with a photo of himself as a prisoner on Robben Island, during the launch of three initiatives outlining his life in Johannesburg, South Africa, Thursday, July 14, 2005. As Nelson Mandela approaches his 87th birthday, the legacy of the anti-apartheid icon who became South Africa's first black president will be remembered through sport, comic books, a virtual museum _ even an ostrich's foot. So organizers of the Nelson Mandela Center of Memory Project, run by the Nelson Mandela Foundation, are planning a rugby match, lectures, comic books and a virtual gallery.

"What we are seeking to do ... is to try and get to grips with what Nelson Mandela's legacy is to all of us as South Africans, to all of us as Africans and indeed to the world," Cyril Ramaphosa, a foundation trustee, said Thursday.
