ATHENS, Greece (AP) - Greece's largest labor union on Tuesday called a nationwide 24-hour strike for July 26 to protest at the conservative government's draft labor reforms.
The GSEE umbrella union whose members work in the private sector also threatened to launch a series of strikes in September if the reforms are approved by Greece's parliament.
The draft legislation, which lawmakers are to start debating on Wednesday, will allow employers to impose more flexible working hours while lowering the cost of overtime work. The government argues that this will help boost Greece's lagging competitiveness while creating more jobs.
