LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) - A sports arbitration court will rule Thursday whether the U.S. men's 1,600-meter relay team should lose its gold medals from the 2000 Sydney Olympics because of Jerome Young's earlier doping infraction.
Young, who has already been stripped of his medal, ran in the opening and semifinal rounds but not in the final anchored by five-time gold medalist Michael Johnson. Young tested positive in 1999 for the steroid nandrolone, but was cleared to run in the Olympics by a U.S. appeals panel.
The International Association of Athletics Federations, which only received confirmation of Young's test after the Sydney Games, ruled that Young should have been suspended for two years and been ineligible for the Olympics.
