Friday, July 22, 2005 10:28:48 AM

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) - Department 56 Inc., a company best known for collectible lighted village buildings, ceramic figurines and other giftware, said it will buy china and crystal maker Lenox Inc. from Brown-Forman Corp. for $190 million in cash.

The deal announced late Thursday would nearly quadruple Department 56's sales, which were $165 million in its most recent fiscal year, to $630 million.

Lenox, which has annual sales of $465 million, makes china, crystal, silver and flatware under the Lenox, Dansk and Gorham brand names.
